    “Publish or not”: an output problem of higher education students

    Publication is an important activity for students studying at university, especially for those who are completing their thesis or final project. The aim of this research is to know problems experienced by students during the publication process and students' perceptions about the output of article publications to obtain a master's degree in the English education master's department, is it better “publish or not”?. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method and interviews as a data collection technique for two students in Higher Education especially master’s students of English education. The results of this finding are there are several problems experienced by students during the article publication process: articles that were rejected by the journal, so they had to look for another journal and it would take a long time. It takes quite a long time to get to the publication stage because as said by participants, each journal has provisions for the publication stage how many times a year and wait for the article review stage which was quite long. And both participants chose "publish" because they thought that the English education master's department had made this policy for a reason and that reason would have a positive impact on students in the future, especially to support the careers of students who wanted to become lecturers and work in the world of education

    Abstrak. Keterampilan mengajar menulis menggunakan pendekatan berbasis genre melibatkan lima tahap, yaitu: 1) Membangun konteks, 2) Membuat model dan mendekonstruksi teks, 3) Konstruksi bersama dari teks, 4) Konstruksi teks independen, dan 5) Menghubungkan teks terkait. Adapun masalah yang dihadapi guru, yaitu waktu mengajar yang kurang memadai, guru tidak bisa memantau semua siswa, siswa tidak memiliki banyak kosakata dan siswa kurang dalam pengucapan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan penerapan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre dalam keterampilan mengajar menulis di Swasta Mulia Medan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan keterampilan pengajaran menulis di Swasta Mulia Medan dengan menggunakan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre.Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif sebagai desain penelitian. Tujuan penelitian deskriptif adalah untuk membuat deskripsi tentang fenomena faktual dalam pengajaran untuk mendapatkan informasi. Peneliti menjelaskan implementasi Pendekatan Berbasis Genre dalam mengajar keterampilan membaca. Metode pengumpulan data adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan reduksi data, menampilkan data, menarik kesimpulan. Penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode triangulasi yaitu observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara.Kata Kunci: Pendekatan Berbasis Genre, Menulis, Teks Deskripsi

    Technology Acceptance Model in Socrative as a Learning Grammar Software: Higher Education Students’ Perception

    Technological advancement that are happening today provide many conveniences, including in the world of education, especially teaching writing. The main objective of this research is to find out how students perceive the use of Socrative to teach English grammar. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Students enrolled in the second semester of the English Education Study Program for the 2022–2023 academic year are the participants. Interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data for this investigation. The questionnaire included 20 (twenty) items regarding perceived utility and perceived ease of use, which the  technology acceptance model (TAM) theory has developed to ensure the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. The findings of this research indicated that students have a very good evaluation of the use of social constructions in teaching grammar. The results proved that they accept the application of Socrative well in their learning proces

    Language's vocabulary plays a significant part in the process of communication, both verbally and in writing. Both the daily world and the world of education need it. This study was carried out based on the problems of students that have difficulties in memorizing vocabularies. The purpose of this study was to investigate how Freerice as a learning medium can improve the students’ vocabulary learning outcome at SMP N 4 Medan at the seventh grader in academic year of 2022/2023. The research was conducted with using a mixed-method. Meaning that the data collected quantitatively then will be explained qualitatively. The data instruments were questionnaires and tests. The participants were all students from class VII-2, and they are 30 students in total. Which the 25 of them did the questionnaire and 5 of them did the test. The questionnaires are 10 items and were constructed based on Likert Scale. The questions are close-ended type. Meanwhile, the tests were gathered quantitatively and will be done twice before/after the use of Freerice to the students’ vocabulary learning outcome.  The result showed that the students’ learning outcome is improved using Freerice as a medium to learn vocabulary
